How To Make Your Business Look Bigger Than It Is With Branding and Design

It’s easy to see the importance of good branding and design when you have a visual business. But many businesses view branding as an afterthought. It’s important, sure. But what impact does it actually have on my sales?

I Want Unlimited Warm Leads!

Design Isn’t Something To Wine About.

One of my favorite places to see the impact of branding is none other than the wine aisle. If you’re like me, you love a good red. But there are so many choices. Rows and rows of different brands, types, and flavors of wine. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by all your options!

So how do you decide which brand to choose? You look at the label.

If a wine bottle has an eye-catching label, your eye is naturally drawn to it. Then, you automatically make inferences about the quality of that wine.

If the label is super classy, you know this is a wine you can take to the Christmas party. If the label is abstract and unusual, you’ll assume the wine is an eclectic flavor and try it when you’re feeling adventurous. If the label is fun and youthful, you might buy a bottle for your next book club. Or two.

Wine bottlesAll of this simply because the bottle had a certain design!

The same concept can be seen across all industries. Whether you’re a B2C or B2B business, the way you frame your brand will impact the type of customers you attract. Colors and patterns illicit emotions — emotions which are then associated with your business.

The good news is, you get to decide how your customer will feel about your brand.

Show Me The Proof!

Statistics have proven that an individual’s desire to be associated with a brand increases exponentially with the quality of design and branding. In other words, the better your branding, the better chance you have of getting more sales.

Design builds credibility and brand recognition. Would you ever send your kid off to a college that uses Comic Sans and rainbow gradients on their site? Chances are, no. This could be one of the top colleges in the country, but your first impression would tell you otherwise.

You want to make the best first impression possible, and you do that with crisp, consistent graphics. We’re instinctually drawn to visually appealing brands. The last thing you want to is to lose leads simply because your logo is lacking.

The Branding & Design Checklist

If you’re ready to focus on your design, these are the four areas that you really need to focus on:

  • Polished logo and brand guidelines
  • A beautiful website that is user-friendly and easy to navigate
  • Branding materials that are polished and well thought-out
  • Consistency is key, so find what works and stick with it!

Ultimately, everything you create should be professional, crisp, and cohesive across all platforms. A logo is more than a logo. It’s a representation of who you are and what you represent.
